Indiana Museums Where Stanchions and Rope Add Elegance and Serve a Purpose

What's in Indiana, you ask? Lots of museums for starters, and all of them amazing! Indiana is a bit on the reserved side, and its inhabitants are friendly and polite but when it comes to museums, the Hoosier State is tops. At CeremonialSupplies.com, we love to see our crowd management products in museums and thought we'd offer a breakdown of our top favorite Indiana museums where stanchions and rope add elegance and serve a purpose.

We love the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, mostly because it's free all year round and for art lovers that's a big deal. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum has three levels and over 120 cars ranging from classics to Indiana built cars. Some of the gallery's beauties include the 1908 Auburn Model G, which, interestingly enough instead of using low, mini stanchions and retractable belt, uses four low standing monument style corners and a yellow cord and seems like the kind of crowd barrier that wouldn't detract anyone from hopping on the front seat! Other favorites include the Planetarium and the Museum of Art at Ball State University, Muncie where again, admission is free and open to the public year round. Fairmount, the home of Indiana native and film idol James Dean, is home to the James Dean Gallery, an exhibit of everything James Dean including photos from childhood, yearbooks, and film posters from around the world. Stanchions are used throughout the gallery, including the flat top style stanchion and velvet rope surrounding the full scale model of the James Dean's bronze bust that's on display at the Griffith Observatory in LA.

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis is a gem! The current exhibit, The Reel West, explores the American identity as was shown in Western films. Lots of props, film costumes, paintings, and memorabilia, many of which are protected with the use of stanchions and ropes and meant to be admired from a distance. The Studebaker National Museum in South Bend is a treasure trove of automobile history from horse-drawn wagons to the classics of the fifties and sixties. Perfect use of low standing 24" height mini stanchions with retractable black belts to protect the area surrounding this priceless collection without obstructing the view. Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum in Rockport includes replicas of log cabins from Abraham Lincoln's years spent in Spencer County. Great use of crowd barriers with several different styles of stanchions and rope in the Old Pigeon Baptist Church replica! The use of stanchions and rope in this setting allows for visitors to get up close to the exhibits, maintaining a safe distance from one-of-a-kind historical items.

Franklin, Indiana is home to Johnson County Museum of History - which we loved! The exhibits trace the local history from geological beginnings to frontier days, up to mid-century. The crowd management tools we spotted here were the classic style golden brass with velvet red rope, used to close off entry into rooms undergoing renovations. And then there's the Joshua Tree Earth & Space Museum in Lakeville, an educational facility that houses one of the best collections of meteorites, fossils, giant crystals, and Indian artifacts. Crowd management barriers were used to section off displays of rare items, in this case full-size stanchions with retractable belt and post signs, were used for the job. Another museum dedicated to the history of Indiana is the Harrison County Discovery Center in Corydon, where interactive, high-tech galleries take you through a stroll of local history, including mysteries of Indiana's fascinating cave systems. From natural history to Civil War memorabilia, this museum uses crowd control barriers for special, room rental occasions, where the classical stanchions and rope are used to section off an area or room. One of our top favorites is the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum in Greenfield. James Whitcomb, nicknamed "The Hoosier Poet" not just because he was born in Indiana, but also because of his poems celebrating the Hoosier State, such as "The Old Swimmin' Hole," was one of the most popular poets in America. Inside his boyhood home, the rooms still have the original furniture and each room has areas that are cordoned off with stanchions and rope.

All in all a visit to these wonderful museums really made us at CeremonialSupplies.com proud of what we bring to the floor! We have an entire section of just crowd management supplies that feature different styles of stanchions, and ropes that are used to flank a red carpet, designate an area, or to create a protective barrier, but these handy crowd management tools can also serve a dual purpose of decoration, especially to call attention to a specific item, having the ability to attach a post sign.
